Cut a piece of batting a little bigger than your
quilt top.
|
Sew the quilt top to the batting with a 1/8 inch
seam allowance. You want these stitches to be
hidden.
|
Use your ruler to trim the batting down to the same
size as quilt top.
|
Measure your quilt top, and cut backing fabric the
same size.
|
Put your backing fabric on top of quilt top with
right sides of fabric facing each other.
|
Mark two points about 4 inches apart on edge of
quilt backing. One is your starting point for
sewing, other is finishing point. This small
opening is where the quilt will turn inside out.
|
Sew around outside of quilt leaving 4 inches open.
Use a quarter inch seam allowance. Trim off the
corners of quilt making sure you DO NOT CUT into
your stitches.
|
This is the opening. Pull the quilt through this
opening and press corners out carefully using a
chopstick or point turner.
|
Carefully iron each side of quilt. The small
opening at the bottom will need to be pressed
inward. Turn fabric 1/4 inch inside and press well.
|
Now that the seam allowance is pressed in, top
stitch all around the outer edge of quilt, using
1/4 inch seam allowance. Be sure to close the
opening carefully.
|
This is the finished placemat! Now it is ready for
quilting. Check QuiltCetera.Com for tutorials on
